Electrical Panel Upgrade Cost in Nepal: 100A to 400A
Power trips every time you switch on the water heater? A panel upgrade may be the fix. Here is what upgrading an electrical panel costs in Nepal and when you need one.
How much does a panel upgrade cost in Nepal?
A residential electrical panel (distribution board) upgrade in Nepal typically costs Rs 25,000–80,000 depending on the load capacity and the number of circuits. Commercial and industrial panel upgrades run from Rs 80,000 to Rs 3,00,000+. The exact price depends on the breaker rating (100A, 200A, or 400A), the number of MCB circuits, and whether the mains need upgrading from the NEA meter.
- 100A residential DB upgrade: Rs 25,000–50,000
- 200A upgrade with new MCB board: Rs 45,000–80,000
- 400A three-phase commercial upgrade: Rs 80,000–3,00,000+
- Additional circuit per MCB: Rs 800–1,500
Signs you need a panel upgrade
You probably need a new panel if your MCB trips whenever two appliances run at once, you hear buzzing from the distribution board, breakers feel hot to the touch, or your panel still uses old rewireable fuses. A modern MCB board also gives you room to add circuits for water heaters, air conditioners, or an EV charger later.
Running heavy loads through an undersized panel is one of the leading causes of house fires in Nepal. If the breaker trips often, do not just reset it — get the load checked.
NEA connection notes
For upgrades above the NEA sanctioned load, you may need to apply to NEA for a higher load sanction before the new panel can be energized. A good electrician will guide you through this, including the earthing requirements, which are legally required and non-negotiable for safety.
What should be included in the quote
- New MCB distribution board with all breakers
- Copper busbars and terminations
- Earthing (earth rod + connection) if missing
- Load test and full schedule of circuits
- Labor warranty on the work
